Nowadays, we live in a consumerist society,
because we normally buy things we really don’t need. In this game, technology
plays a big role. Our daily life is full of advertisements of a lot of
different things. The companies want to sell their products so they show us the
advantages of their own products. You can see that advantages because their
presentation is fantastic and it makes you feel the need to buy it. And
probably you’ll go to the shop or market and you buy that product, however, when
you arrive at home you keep it in a cupboard or wardrobe and you don’t use it.
And one day, when you open that cupboard you see that object, and you ask to
yourself: ‘why I bought that?’
Nevertheless, that’s not only a problem of the
First World. Also in the poorest places of the world you can find a television,
a computer, mobile phones or even Iphone. The companies and the advertisements and the
evolution of the humanity and the globalization make we need different things
to be happy or even to be normal. If you don’t have a phone at 12 years old or
less, then you friends ask to you: ‘how can you live without a phone? I cannot
spend a minute without it!’ However, there are people in the world that can’t
buy a phone or a computer and they’re happy!!
So I think that, in part the advertisements are
necessary because they show us new products, improved products, but we should
buy with moderation and responsibility.
